Dortmund, Germany 11 Nov – German authorities have arrested a man accused of using the darknet to incite attacks on prominent politicians, including former chancellors Angela Merkel and Olaf Scholz, according to federal prosecutors.
The suspect, a German-Polish national, allegedly solicited cryptocurrency donations online to fund bounties for assassinations. He operated a darknet platform where he compiled “death lists” featuring over 20 names of politicians, public figures, former ministers, judges, and prosecutors.
The platform, titled “Assassination Politics,” included self-authored death sentences, bomb-making instructions, and leaked sensitive personal data on potential victims. Reports from Der Spiegel highlight right-wing extremist, racist, and conspiracy theory elements on the site.
Prosecutors in Karlsruhe have charged him with financing terrorism, inciting serious violence against the state, and endangering the public through data dissemination.
Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt noted that investigations began in June, expressing confidence in confirming the terrorism financing suspicions.
The arrest occurred Monday evening in Dortmund, where the man resides with his family. A Karlsruhe court will decide on his remand in custody later today.
This case underscores growing concerns over darknet threats to public safety and political figures.
