German authorities have arrested a suspected Hamas member accused of obtaining weapons believed to be intended for attacks on Israeli or Jewish institutions, prosecutors announced Wednesday.
The Lebanese-born suspect was detained on a motorway while entering Germany from the Czech Republic, according to the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office in Karlsruhe. He is expected to appear before an investigating judge who will decide on his pre-trial detention.
According to prosecutors, the man is alleged to be a member of a foreign terrorist organization. In August, he reportedly acquired a fully automatic rifle, eight pistols, and more than 600 rounds of ammunition, which he then transported to Berlin to pass to another suspected Hamas operative currently in custody. All weapons were seized during his arrest.
Danish authorities conducted coordinated searches in Copenhagen and surrounding areas linked to the suspect and another individual under investigation.
This latest arrest follows a series of operations across Europe in recent weeks. In October, three alleged Hamas members were detained in Berlin on suspicion of gathering weapons and ammunition since mid-2025. Investigators believe the group planned attacks on Israeli or Jewish targets in Germany, though no specific plots were confirmed.
Earlier this month, Austrian intelligence agents uncovered a weapons cache in Vienna reportedly connected to the same network. The stash included five handguns and ten magazines. Austria’s DSN intelligence agency attributed the find to Hamas structures operating abroad.
A separate arrest in London last week involved a 39-year-old British citizen suspected of transporting weapons to Vienna. He is expected to be extradited to Germany.
These investigations are unfolding amid heightened security concerns across Europe following Hamas’s October 7, 2023 assault on Israel, which resulted in 1,200 deaths and more than 250 hostages, igniting the Gaza war.
