Darrang, Assam – September 14, 2025

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate a series of transformative healthcare and infrastructure projects in Assam today, marking a significant step towards realizing the vision of a developed India (‘Viksit Bharat’). The events, commencing from 11:00 AM onwards, will span the districts of Darrang, Kamrup, and Golaghat, focusing on enhancing connectivity, boosting sustainable energy, and strengthening medical facilities in the northeastern region.

In a major highlight, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art Bio-Refinery in Golaghat district, a ₹1,500 crore project aimed at promoting green energy and biofuel production. This facility, developed in collaboration with public-private partnerships, is expected to process agricultural waste into ethanol and biogas, creating over 2,000 direct and indirect jobs while reducing the state’s carbon footprint. “This bio-refinery will not only fuel our energy needs but also empower our farmers by turning farm residue into prosperity,” an official from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy stated.

The Prime Minister’s itinerary begins at 11:00 AM in Darrang district, where he will inaugurate the upgraded Darrang Medical College and Hospital. The ₹800 crore expansion includes a 500-bed super-specialty wing equipped with advanced diagnostic tools, ICUs, and telemedicine units to serve remote rural populations. This initiative aligns with the Ayushman Bharat scheme, aiming to provide universal health coverage and bridge the urban-rural healthcare divide in Assam.

Moving to Kamrup district by midday, PM Modi will launch several infrastructure projects worth over ₹2,000 crore. Key among them is the widening and strengthening of the Guwahati-Silchar Highway stretch, improving connectivity to the Barak Valley and facilitating smoother trade and tourism. Additionally, he will flag off the electrification of 150 km of rural railway lines under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, enhancing passenger safety and efficiency. “These projects will connect hearts and economies, driving Assam’s growth engine,” said Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a pre-event briefing.

The day’s events underscore the central government’s commitment to the Northeast’s development, with a total investment exceeding ₹4,300 crore. Local leaders and industry experts hail the initiatives as a game-changer for Assam’s socio-economic landscape, particularly in promoting sustainable development and self-reliance (Atmanirbhar Bharat).

PM Modi’s visit comes amid Assam’s ongoing push for industrial diversification, following recent successes in tea, oil, and now biofuel sectors. Security measures are in place across the three districts, with thousands of supporters expected to gather for the live telecast and on-ground ceremonies.

As the nation watches, these launches are poised to propel Assam towards a brighter, more inclusive future.
