In a shocking escalation of security concerns across India’s judicial institutions, the Bombay High Court was thrown into chaos today after receiving a menacing bomb threat via email. The threat, which claimed explosives had been planted within the premises, prompted an immediate evacuation of the historic court building in Mumbai’s Fort area, suspending all ongoing hearings and sending judges, lawyers, staff, and visitors scrambling for safety.

The incident unfolded around midday when the email alert reached court officials, mirroring a similar hoax bomb threat that struck the Delhi High Court just hours earlier. In Delhi, the court was evacuated after an email warned that a judge’s chamber would “detonate shortly,” though subsequent searches by bomb disposal squads and sniffer dogs found no explosives. No such confirmation has yet come from Mumbai, but police and anti-bomb units are conducting a thorough sweep of the premises as a precautionary measure.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of pandemonium as sirens blared and security personnel directed hundreds out of the building. “We were in the middle of a hearing when the judges suddenly rose and announced evacuation,” recounted a senior advocate who wished to remain anonymous. “It’s deeply unsettling—our justice system under threat like this.” All benches were abruptly adjourned, with the Chief Justice’s office confirming that operations would remain halted until the all-clear is given.

Mumbai Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for criminal intimidation and threats to public safety. The email’s origin is under investigation, with cyber forensics teams tracing its source. Authorities suspect it could be part of a coordinated hoax campaign, given the timing with the Delhi incident. “We are leaving no stone unturned,” stated a senior police official, emphasizing heightened vigilance at other key installations.

This wave of threats comes amid rising concerns over judicial security in India, where high courts handle some of the nation’s most sensitive cases. The Bombay High Court, established in 1862, is a cornerstone of the legal framework, and today’s events have sparked widespread alarm among the legal fraternity. Bar associations in Mumbai have called for immediate enhancements to security protocols, including advanced screening and AI-driven threat detection.

As of this report, the evacuation is ongoing, and the public has been urged to avoid the area around Flora Fountain. TIN24 will provide updates as the situation develops. Stay tuned for more on this breaking story.
