One Man’s Fight Against Injustice: Amit Alhat Announces Protest on Independence Day Over SC/ST Act Violations.

Scheduled Caste Complainant Alleges Caste-Based Atrocities by DCP Atul Pralhad Patil, Slams Nagpada Police for Suppressing FIR Under SC/ST Act Section 18A.

Mumbai, August 9, 2025 – Amit Alhat, a member of the Scheduled Caste community, has announced a one-man protest on August 15, 2025, India’s Independence Day, to demand justice for alleged caste-based atrocities committed against him by Atul Pralhad Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Motor Transport Section, Mumbai. The protest, starting at Hutatma Chowk and culminating in a hunger strike at Azad Maidan, aims to highlight the failure of Nagpada Police Station to register an FIR under Section 18A of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, despite repeated complaints over the past seven months.

Alhat alleges that DCP Patil subjected him to caste-based verbal abuse, issued life threats, and misused his authority to obstruct Alhat’s employment by fabricating unauthorized absence records. These records were reportedly used in preliminary and departmental inquiries to target Alhat, driven by caste-based prejudice. Alhat further claims that Patil violated the Police Act, as Section 25 does not grant a DCP the authority to impose punishment, and the Police Commissioner, as the appointing authority under Section 10, should have handled the matter.

Despite Alhat’s persistent efforts to file a complaint under the SC/ST Act, Nagpada Police Station has allegedly suppressed the case to protect the accused officer. On August 8, 2025, Senior Police Inspector Pradeep Kale reportedly informed Alhat that the police were still seeking a “legal opinion” and urged him to postpone his protest. Alhat, frustrated by the seven-month delay, accuses the police of deliberate inaction to shield Patil, citing systemic bias in the enforcement of the SC/ST Act.

Alhat has also written to the Chief Justice of India, referencing orders from the Bombay High Court, Delhi High Court, and Madras High Court that mandate strict implementation of Section 18A of the SC/ST Act. He claims these orders are being disregarded by the Maharashtra police administration, particularly under the Home Department led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Alhat argues that the state government has failed to ensure proper enforcement of the SC/ST Act, allowing police officials to act with impunity.

Invoking the constitutional rights granted by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Alhat vows to continue his protest until justice is served. He has called on the press, media, and citizens to support his movement and amplify his fight against caste-based discrimination and police inaction. The protest is set to begin at Hutatma Chowk, Mumbai, and proceed to Azad Maidan, where Alhat plans to stage a hunger strike.

Call to Action: Alhat urges the public to join his cause and support his fight for justice using the hashtag #JusticeForAmitAlhat.
